Surprising acquisition...M-Audio

Avid is acquiring M-Audio for $80M. M-Audio will run as an Avid division. M-Audio will not move from Irwindale. Digidesign will continue to distribute the Focusright products, interesting changes overall...
While this is certainly good for Avid folks, not sure if it's a good thing overall for the development of DV. Certainly is another step in all good audio providers being snapped up by bigger companies..

I hope Avid does not use this opportunity to abandon or scale back hardware support for non-ProTools systems (a la Logic and Apple). I wouldn't be surprised if this is a precursor to a lower-cost "Protools Light" and hardware bundle to compete with Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude, etc.

Well, this can't be good news. I like my M-Audio gear, but Avid is sure to screw this up.

Well...according to the press release Avid is going to be letting M-Audio remain a separate division. But like you, I don't know what to think. Then again, maybe we're both thinking like all the naysayers that said Sony would screw Vegas up, and they've clearly not done that. So, I guess give it an open mind and see what it looks like in 6 months.

Wasn't M-Audio the darling of the Macolites?
Wonder how they feel about this?

...mmm, well, the GranySmithers I've seen were more axed towards MOTU...
They probably don't give a damn since in their minds, FCP is Avid's "little bro" ...
And they probalby don't give a damn since in their minds, Mac will take care of everything for them anyway... hahah!
