Render to mpeg2 using SVCD template, author in Nero, That's how I do them. I think Vegas can brun them but you don't get to have menus. Nero has that capability. DON'T get caught, Ahead like to flog you their mpeg2 encoder for extra money. It is pathetic and you don't need it if the material is already encoded.
What you need to watch for is that Nero is very insistant that the mpeg 1/2 files that you feed it are fully compliant with the specs for the target format. I don't find this a problem as my target is usually STB VCD or SVCD players not DVD players. Some of these will play our of spec streams and others will not so to be safe I always make certain my mpeg files are compliant.
A Nero recompressed mpeg2 video must have been YUCK!.
Must admit I'm not 100% certain, I'm assuming you're talking about a genuine SVCD right, not just a CD with a mpeg2 file that'll play in a PC. From memory a SVCD carries a module of code loaded by the player.
Just found one, there's 4 directories on it, one contains the mpeg files that are the clips, others contain info and a big file LOT.SVD.
I think some of this stuff is copyright to someone as well, you get the rights to it with the burning app.
To get SVCDs I had to render *.avi in Vegas, and then authored, "transcoded to mpeg2," and burned in Nero Express. That way I got menu page, buttons, background, and all that. Finally said screw it, why am I waltzing around trying to mimic a DVD? Upgraded to Vegas+DVDA. Rendered from Vegas timeline to DVDA compliant files, authored, and burned first simple DVD first try. Hooray. DGrob
farss: Yes, Nero's trancode of a Vegas mpeg was, ahem, sadly lacking.
"I know vid fact 2.0 will do vcd's but I'm wondering about svcd?"
Ulead DVD MovieFactory will do SVCD. You select New Project and then select from one of the available video formats (DVD, VCD, or SVCD).
I think DVD Architect 1.0 does DVDs only. Although it is not formally supported, DVD Architect can be used to make miniDVDs simply by using the VIDEO_TS video title set folder that is produced by DVD Architect and Nero Burning Rom to do the actual burn to a CD-R or CD-RW. Mini-DVDs are limited to a playing time of 15 minutes to maybe 18 minutes, but they cost very little to make (CD-Rs are cheap) and they have full DVD video and audio quality. However, considerably less than half of the DVD players can play MiniDVDs. Fortunately mine can.
Vegas can render SVCD MPEG-2 files (there's a render template for it), but Vegas or any other Sofo/Sony app will NOT burn SVCD discs. Nero or some other burning app can be used for the burning process.
