What was the original media? Which format are you rendering to? Setting up for Square Pixels or not? What are you displaying it on that you are seeing the squash? Sounds like you are rendering to .9 PAR, but your display device is showing square....?
SVCD is rendered at 480x480. Depending on how it is played back on your PC, it may have distorted aspect ratio. It should look fine on your TV. Cut a test CD (use a CD-RW, if your player can play them) and check.

If you are making a file for your computer, don't use the SVCD template unless you are using DVD player software. YOur DVD player will correct the aspect, but your PC doesn't have a clue. For PC, create your own correct aspect settings (640 x 480 for ntsc)
I am using a couple of quicktime movies and some captured in my PAL camera. They are placed in the timeline and then rendered as SVCD Pal to be viewed on a TV. The preview window in Vegas looks squashed as well as when played in the windows media player. When the recorded CD-RW is played on a Pioneer DVD player, nothing appears on TV.
I believe the problem is with the aspect ratio or maybe the A06 . Just can't figure out.

Are you sure your DVD can play SVCD? Not all DVD players can.
Dave,
My standalone Pioneer DVD player connected to a TV does NOT play the SVCD. My computer's player however plays it ... but the picture is distorted i.e. tall in proportion. Can you figure out the problem ?

On your computer, unless you are using DVD software that recognizes the SVCD format, it will be distorted. That is the nature of an SVCD. A standalone player will correct the aspect.
If you want to watch your video on a computer, do not use the SVCD template. Just create an MPEG with the correct aspect.
