svcd mpeg 2 upgrade..is it worth it????

I read some posts that state even if you buy the $30 svcd upgrade, the VF software will not output on the SVCD's?? Is this a fact? What a hassle to pay $30, and then trying to find another means to output the mpeg2 file? I was just getting use to the dazzle/VW-canopus-VF-VCD....This sounds like i will add yet another tool to make a blasted disc. LMK if this is the case. I have svcds someone gave me of lord of the rings and a few others to watch and the mpeg2 quality was pretty good. Would a higher bit rate of VCD help some of the quality issues with movements and pixelations? the_ripper

You might try asking in the Vegas forum since all Vegas 3 users have the pro encoder.

Just a guess: You'll probably hear that "DVD encoding is really good" and that "SVCD encoding is good but not as fantastic as you can get with the amazing-but-painful-to-configure freeware app-chain you can find on www.vcdhelp.com".

I don't know about the VF upgrade, but I am definitely sold on using MPEG2 as my encoding format. I found it MUCH better than MPEG1. But since I had otherwise unused VideoWave 5.0 software, I am using the MPEG2 encoder that came with that.

When I use that, I do not output directly onto the disk, but onto my hard drive. I then use the burning software that came with my CD burner to put it on the disk. It seems to work OK.

You might see what folks have to say about the TMPGEnc MPEG2 encoder. Most seem pretty pleased with how that works, though you will have to pay for the MPEG2 function after 30 days (uses?) That would give you time to try it anyway.
