svcd mpeg-2 worse than vcd mpeg-1

Ok. I made a svcd and it didnt even work on on dvd unit I tried, and the player that played the vcd just played very broken and of color (green) video with aot of pixelation streaks.

since in vegas when you choose to make a vcd, you cant choose to code as mpeg-2, I rendered te file as an mpeg-2 using the svcd templete then went to create vcd and used the option to make cd using a current file.

I am eventually going to by a dvd burner, but want to wait until A. standard is more set B. price comes down more

I like vegas and use many sofo products. I am just very dissapointed that Vegas cant make a vcd that looks good or even a svcd that will work. I dont want to incorporate a stand-alone program just to do vcd's (like mentioned on vcdhelp)

any words of advice? I am doing something wrong??

Sounds like your DVD player. You get the same problems trying to play with DVD software on your PC?

My computer wont read it. I am using cd-rw media. One dvd player plays it but it's all green and the picture is all over the place, and another dvd player loads it and says "video cd" but just sits with 20+ mnutes on he counter and does nothing (and the video i only 13 minutes long)

I've made stacks of VCD's, SVCD's with both Video Factory and Vegas Video using the default settings, changing the settings, and exporting out to TMPGEnc then rending that way. Are you burning from within Vegas Video or using something else? I must confess I've never used Vegas to burn anything, having already had the habit of using Easy CD Creator, Nero and now DVD Movie Factory.

Am I reading what you said correctly where you state you start out with the SVCD template then make a VCD or is that just a typo?

If you really want to make a VCD that's MPEG-1 and requires the VCD template. If you want a SVCD then that requires MPEG-2 and the SVCD template.

I used the svcd template to create the mpg file. Then go to create cd - video cd and choose use existing file
