SVCD question

Hi everyone. I am trying using VF for a short time and have installed the Mainconcept Mpeg2 basic version.
I made a SVCD-file and tried to write it to CD.
This did not work. U have the Win-on-CD version 3.2 installed for writing to CD.
There is a choise for VCD in it. But nothing for SVCD.
Do I need another burning program and what is the best.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, you need another burning program. I would suggest Ulead DVD MovieFactory. It's only $25 USD if you order from Ulead's site. It will make VCD's, SVCD's, and DVD's. It even recognizes when you make a VCD or SVCD that's out of spec and suggests XVCD and XSVCD respectively. You can make thumbnail menus with chapter points and add music and your own background images. It's simple and easy to use and gets the job done. When you're ready to burn DVD's you'll be all set.

You're welcome. I forgot to add that you can download a 30 day free trial of Ulead DVD MovieFactory and see if you like it before you buy it. Make sure it works with your setup. I don't purchase ANY software anymore that I can't try first. Been burned too many times. (no pun intended) That’s one thing that’s great about SoFo and Ulead.

You don't need another program to use it. You just need another program to burn the MPEG2 file you create to a SVCD or DVD. Don't feel bad if you bought the MainConcept MPEG2 encoder. I think you’ll find it’s a better encoder than the Ligos MPEG encoder that Ulead uses in DVD MovieFactory. At least that’s been my experience.

The Ligos encoder shows a lot of compression artifacts in the lower bitrate formats like VCD and SVCD while the MainConcept encoder is darn impressive at all bitrates. I have both and I create my MPEG2 files in VF or VV and just import them into MovieFactory to create my DVD’s.

Even if the quality was the same, you still don’t want to be rendering large AVI files and then compressing them to MPEG in MovieFactory when you can create the smaller MPEG files right from VF to start with.
