Swaping clips

What is the best way to just swap one clip (both video & audio) for another? But this I mean what switches do you have turned on/off like ripple effects, groups etc. Is this done differantly when you wish to move a clip that also has other tracks assocciated with it like, extra audio, titles etc?

Not quite sure I understand the entire question (the second sentence) but if all you want to do is "swap one clip for another" you do that by selecting the appropriate file in the media bin, right clicking on it and selecting replace. All places where this media is used in the timeline is now referencing the new file.
