Switching from Avid Studio to production suite 11

While I love the database of Avid Studio, on my system (AMD 945, 4 gig's ram, 32 bit Win 7, and 3 t'bytes free space) I can't render anything longer than 15 minutes in high res. I downloaded a copy of production suite 11 and did a 45 minute render with no problems. Looking for deals I found 11 production suite for $80 and based on my experience with the free trail thought it was a great value.

So far so good.

I bought Avid Studio when it first came out. I learned basic video editing on Windows Movie Maker and Pinnacle Studio 12 and 14.
I had switched over to VMS because I wanted to learn and grow as an editor. There was no upgrade path with Pinnacle unless I went to Avid Media Composer with its very steep price tag.
I was intrigued by what I had heard about Avid Studio's preview abilities as well as it attractive interface, which is something that I had always liked about Pinnacle. I began to use it regularly and purchased the complete training.
A lot of the transitions in AS are cheesy, but some of them I really liked. And it does come with an extensive special effects package and titling abilities.
One day I was produced a weekly feature that I upload to YouTube. It's time-sensitive material that needs delivery ASAP. I created what I thought was a dazzling video and uploaded it to YouTube.
Immediately I was getting messages from my subscribers that the audio was out of sync and basically broken. Upon listening I found this was true. I thought perhaps something had gotten broken during upload, so I tried re-uploading with several different browsers. This did not help at all.
I took my source files ( AVCHD 24mbs) and re-editing and rendered the project in
VMS. It uploaded flawlessly.
I stopped using AS completely from that day. It's version 1 software and simply not reliable. Since then I have upgraded to Vegas Pro 10e 64 bit and have been very happy.
Last night, just to see what it was like again, I played around in AS. I found myself doing this with multiple clicks and multiple windows what I can do with one or two clicks in Vegas.
You made a wise decision going over to Sony. Much more reliable, mature code, and we have a lot of very knowledgeable and good-hearted people here who will bend over backwards to help you learn the software.
If you haven't already done so, check out the training resources on the Sony website. They have some good videos and webinars there. On YouTube, Bill Myers is the man to watch. He has put up some of the finest training videos I have ever watched.
Enjoy your new software.
