sync audio video from vhs

I'm new to this forum and video in general so bear with me. I'm using Vegas 3c and waiting for my v5 to arrive. I use vegas primarily for audio mixing but am begining to work with video.

I captured a 2 hr segment of video from a vhs tape through an ATI all in wonder card. The captured video was an MPEG2 file. If I take it directly to my DVD burning software it burns pretty accurate. However, for the sake of learning more about the video side of vegas I loaded the file and was going to play with it. In Vegas it is completely out of sync. At times, several seconds. Is there a setting or something that I am missing here?

The audio file and the video file are the same length on the timeline, The audio sounds like the right speed and video looks right.

System:
win XP Pro
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5gig ram

I think that's a pretty common problem capturing video that way. You can fix it in Vegas usually with a bit of work but much better to capture via say ADVC-100/300 and firewire. You'll have no sync problems and get better video as well.

I have an AIW card and have had the same problem. A simple thing to check is zoom in on the very end of the audio and video track (zoom in as much as you can). I suspect you will find they don't end at the same time. Slide the audio track so it ends at the same time as the video track (or as close as you can get it). And give it a test. You may still have a problem but I found that it fixed the problem for me, though I tended to fix shorter files.

This is a known bug in the ATI capture software (which absolutely stinks). Walley's solution is what I would reocmmend as well.

A great place to get support on ATI capture problems is this board:
