Am I missing something? Why doesn't the sync cursor work in the text dialog box? I'm trying to keyframe some text effects to the audio and video but am finding it difficult without the sync cursor as in the pan/crop.
It doesn't seem to work with any of the generated media types. Maybe because you can have multiple instances of them on the time line. Vegas wouldn't know which one to sync the cursor to.
You can have multiple instances on the timeline, but you can have only one open at a time, so it seems that it could work.
Anyway, what I was trying to do was have the letters of a 5 letter word change color (one letter at a time) to the drum beats in the audio.
I got it to work but it took a lot of nudging the keyframes to get it the way I wanted. It would have been faster if keyframes worked like in other dialogs.

When you open one (click the edit generated media button), you are really opening the source - not a specific event. Each "instance" of that source on your time line will update to reflect the keyframe changes you add to the source. It's like adding effects to media in the media pool. You could have used the media in a hundred places - and some may be overlapping. So the concept of syncing to the timeline becomes arbitrary.
You make a valid point... it is difficult to synchronize keyframes in media / generated media to timeline events. This workflow could certainly be enhanced.
Proposed feature enhancement:
Replace the greyed out "Sync Cursor" button in Generated Media dialogs with a "Show Cursor in Events" button. When activated, placing the cursor on the keyframe time line within Generated Media would also trigger a visual indication within any instances of that media on the Vegas time line.
If you've used embedded media markers and enabled them to show on the time line, you've already seen something similar. Orange marker lines appear within the event to indicate where each embedded marker is - relative to the media.
This "Show Cursor in Events" feature could use something similar... maybe a black flashing line... to indicate where the keyframe cursor is placed. If there are multiple instances of the Generated Media on the time line then each event will have its own flashing cursor indicator. And if the event is looped, there will may be multiple flashing cursor indicators.
This would solve the problem of trying to guess where to place keyframes within Media Generators as well as any other Media type.
On a track above or below your text (or other generated media)
put another event, say, a still picture that is the same length as your (for the sake of argument) text.
Using pan/crop in this still, just place keyframes where you would need them in the text media.
After you've done this, place the cursor on the first keyframe. Note the timecode.
Bring up the text media box, and now place your cursor at the same timecode and add/adjust text as necessary.
Repeat with second, third, fourth etc. keyframe to end.
I did this recently with some fractal noise media which I wanted to sync to specific video events.
