Syncing Audio

Here is what is probably an easy question.

I am editing a long speech with a lot of pauses. We had 2 cameras, one doing the audience, and one the speaker. I want to use the audio from only camera, and sort of fade back and forth between the 2 views, removing most of the long pauses. For instance, while the speaker is talking, switch to a shot of the audience and then back to the clip. I seem to have mastered the shotgun approach to this, but is there a dirty little secret to make it more efficient?
Thanks

Well....there are two tools that make dual cam editing MUCH easier. Excalibur, which is around 90.00, it can manage up to 24 cams, or Ultimate S, which only does 2 cams, and is very fast. It sells for 129.99 and includes 54 additional tools.
