Syncing audio clips for multicam editing

BillRankin wrote on 2/1/2024, 4:08 PM

I just downloaded the VP 21 because of the audio syncing feature for multicam editing and began to sync some footage. It has been processing for about 15 minutes. The footage is about 50 minutes long. Is this normal?

The footage is .mxf from a Sony Z90 and mp4 from AX700. My computer is newly built with Windows 11 home, 32 GB ram, I7 12700 CPU. The computer should more than sufficiently powered.

Does anyone know how long it takes to sync footage on VP 21 with a powerful computer? Also, is there a limit to the number of camera's that can be sync'd at one time?

I haven't tested it myself, as I personally find it better just to do a manual audio sync. Faster, and usually more accurate than software methods I've used in the past.

I know that tools4vegas.com has AudioSyncR that is supposed to work as good or better than PluralEyes did, if you don't find the VEGAS tool to be satisfactory.

Few of us use the native tool. I use PluralEyes myself and there are other options.

I have plural eyes, but it will not work on the newer computer.

PluralEyes works on newer computers- I got it to work on a new Windows 11 system with VP 21.

PE works here as well. Unfortunately, unless you already own PE, it's pretty expensive since it is now part of Maxon's Red Giant, which is $600 a year.

I contacted Maxon support and they walked me thru the process for uninstalling and reinstalling Plural eyes 4. Thanks to everyone who posted. If I can, I will post the email instructions.

Your request has been updated:

Hi William,

It sounds as though you have the wrong version installed. Please start by uninstalling this version through the Maxon App.

After that, make sure that you have the most recent version of the Maxon App installed. You will find that at the link below.

https://www.maxon.net/downloads/

Once you have installed the Maxon App, please download the Serial Filler tool for your OS; Mac / Windows. For ease of use, you can place the file anywhere on the system, like the Desktop.

Once downloaded, double-click the Serial Filler tool and place the serial into the pop-up window.

Once your serial number has been imported, head to the Serials section of the Maxon App and select Install. This will provide you with the installers that you can use to get up and running.

If you are not seeing your license in the Serials section, then you may need to sync the Maxon App. That can be done in the top right corner.

I hope that helps. If you experience any issues, then please send me a screenshot of the Maxon App and I would be happy to assist you further from there.

Regards,

Hi there,

unfortunally PE has been adbandoned (check here), Syncalia don't work so well (at least for me) and Vegas integrated alignment tool is *EXTREMELY* slow...

...anyway there's an interesting (Windows-only, at the moment) open source alternative now:

AudioAlign: Audio Synchronization And Analysis Tool

It's still "young" (v1.7.0 released last week) and surelly has some bugs, but its developer (Mario Guggenberger) is pretty active recently and fairly inclined to fix users-reported issues.

It exports syncs in Vegas EDL (but XML too).

Official git here.

Hope that helps !
