System low on memory error

ben-b6548 wrote on 10/8/2020, 8:11 AM

Hello, so basically I have a 5min video and I don’t have any crazy effects at all. It’s a video talking about a topic with minimal png files. I tried to render 2560 x 1440 and once it hits the 52-55% mark I see a pop up saying system is low on memory. I have 32GB of RAM so it can’t be my computer. Maybe it has to do with my preferences I don’t really know? I’ve tried rendering for 6 hours 4 different times and it keeps giving me the error. If someone can help me fix this that would be appreciated.

If anyone has had this issue please let me know

When rendering, this error usually refers to GPU memory, not system memory.

Should I change something because Idk how to fix this ?

What render template are you using? If it involves GPU acceleration maybe choose CPU only option. (also what GPU is installed?)

Where can I find the CPU only option? I also have a GTX 950 so it’s not the most powerful but I never had this issue before. I’m rendering in 4K with smart resample on for the quality. I use V11 to render.

andyrpsmith wrote on 10/8/2020, 9:37 AM

V11 wow, really old version. my versions only go back to V13. When you select render what template comes up? The GTX 950 has 2GB of internal memory. Why are you using smart resample I always have resample disabled?

what should i put for my Dynamic RAM Preview max (200MB) and Maximum number of rendering threads? I tried putting Dynamic to 0 and maximum to 1 but it still didnt work. I have 4 cores as well so should I put 4?

ben-b6548 wrote on 10/8/2020, 10:11 AM

I also feel like theirs a page file or something taking up so much space. I had 40GB free and i click the render tab and it says 102GB free now. Im very confused on whats happening.

andyrpsmith wrote on 10/8/2020, 10:36 AM

Leave dynamic ram preview at 0 (it is for rendering clips on the timeline for a preview - not needed for file render). Leave max render threads at 32. I looked at the v11 render it has a number of templates. Try another render option maybe one of the sony avc options. you can set frame size by using customise template.

Ben what version of vegas are you using, we assumed vegas 11 but we maybe wrong, if more recent version the graphics card ram may be too small

When I try to render with MAGIX (both of them) it just says an unexpected error as occurred.

ben-b6548 wrote on 10/8/2020, 10:48 AM

The issue is that its a 2 hour render and I only know an hour in if the render failed.

andyrpsmith wrote on 10/8/2020, 10:52 AM

With the magix templates you can choose a CPU only option

How exactly do i do that?

Are you rendering using any fx plugins in your project like neat video, boris, etc? I've had this error occur when I told Neat Video to take up too much of my VRAM (graphics memory), which didn't leave enough for VEGAS to do its thing.

The only effects im using in this project is S_Shake, S_Glow, S_SwishPan, Push Transition. I dont use any of the sharpness tools or any of those heavy duty effects. Its only from the Sapphire Plugins.

Also i looked in my task manager and for some reason Vegas takes up 32k ram and i only have like 3% ram left which is insane. Something happened with Vegas is their a way to locate like a page file or something?

First thing to try... go into video tab of settings, disable the GPU acceleration there. Then (was it VEGAS 11 or 17?, if 17, then...) go into the file i/o tab and disable GPU decoding there. Try to render. Does that help it?

If this doesn't do anything, disable all effects used in the project, and try to render it then. If the issue is resolved by that, we can isolate it to an effect and dig in further from there.
