I am getting the same error. Funny thing, it didn't happen at first, but suddenly, and I have no idea what changed, this error started to pop up when loading Vegas 4.0. Everything seems to be working fine, so I don't know if it affects anything in the application.

Have you disabled any services within WinXP? If Terminal Services is disabled it will cause this error. Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Services, and make sure Terminal Services is set to Manual.

Yes, I just found this myself by searching the Knowledge Base. My bad, I searched the web and usenet with Google, but it took me while before thinking about searching the SOFO Knowledge Base.

I had actually stopped the Terminal Server service, and reenabling did fix the problem.

(if I recall, it has something to do with handling "fast user switching", which is part of Windows XP logo compliance or some such).
