Taken the plunge - but need little advice, please

The upgrade offer from V5 to 8Pro was just too good to miss so I purchasd it.

To be honest, as a budding amatuer without a HD cam, etc. I won't require all it's functions but it will help my throughput and, judging by the many coments here, make my editing more enjoyable.

Two questions:

Should I uninstall V5d and DVD 2b before installing 8Pro or can they work side-by-side until I am competent with Pro?

Will all V5d and DVDA 2b file load into Pro and DVD A4 or wil I have some compatibility issues (I am using XP Home)?

Cheers

should be "yes" to both questions.

I assume you mean; Yes - they will work side-by-side & Yes they will load previous version files:)

Since they install to separate directories, all versions of Vegas will happily co-exist with one another without problems.

Newer versions will always read older versions but not vice-versa.
The general recommendation is, if you open any of your older files in the newer software, to immediately save it with a new name reflecting the change.
This way, you can still open them with the older versions.

You'll need to install the newest version of Microsoft's .NET Framework but, if you're online, you'll get prompted to download it. If you're not connected, the Sony site link to it.

Also, Media Manager is now a separate install. Read about it and then decide if you want to install it.

Thanks

I have read that Media Manager can cause some issues so think I will leave well alone.

I have also checked whether I require updates but the download links give Pro 8a and DVD 4.5a ,so that's good.

But what about Vegas Pro Update 1.b. does that need to be downloaded and added to Pro 8 or is it something completely different?

Thanks for such quick responses.

Rocking forum:)

That was for the original version of Vegas and is several years old :-)
8.0a and 4.5a are as new as it gets.

I feel kinda silly for asking now as I have looked at the download page and it is dated 1999;)

Don't feel silly.
There has been at least one user here who didn't look at the date.
He installed it and then went through all kinds of grief to get back to where he was.

I think the excitement of my shiny new Vegas Pro has got to me:

I forgot to check 'Install desktop shortcut'. So I tried Start - All programs and couldn't find it and panicked...

Till I realised it would be under Sony lol.

I'd better calm down before I do anything else:)
