Taking DVD footage in vegas

tjcinnamon wrote on 11/14/2005, 11:25 AM
I just bought a copy of vegas. My intent is to make video collages that are syncronised to music I produce. Basically I want to take scenes from DVD's I own and string them together in vegas. I was wondering how it is possible for me to take these small clips from DVD's? Can I take them from the DVD playing in my DVD RW? Can I take them running an external DVD player through the input on my matrox APVe? Do I have to convert the DVD to mpeg2 then put it into vegas to cut up the sections I want?

Any suggestions or experiences appreciated,
Joe

Capture them from an external player and save them as .avi files. Don't convert to MPEG2 until the final render.

It looks like that card has both composite and S-Video inputs so you should be able to. I can't promise that Vegas' capture utility will see that card so you may have to use the software that came with it. There are also any number of free or very low cost capture utilities available.

I'm going to order the input cable for the card. What are some of the other low cost or free capture utilities?

I really appreciate your help,
Joe
