Taking up too much Hard Drive space...

I have been trying the Vegas demo (using it only as
a multi-track audio recorder) and it works great in
most respects. It is much easier to use and much more
intuitive than other software I have tried (like Cakewalk).
The only feature that seems lacking is a way to reduce
the size of multiple-take wave files by deleting unused
takes. I noticed that you can indeed 'delete' takes
from Vegas, but this only seems to have the effect of
not allowing you to choose this take as active....it
doesn't really remove the take from the source wave file.
This is really causing my hard drive to fill up with
wave files that could be drastically reduced in size if
there were an easier way to remove these unused takes.

I have searched this forum for discussions of this
problem, and came across some postings that looked
like they might have been talking about the same issue,
but I wasn't sure. So, I decided to make my own attempt
at clarifying the problem... and I apologize if the above
question has already been answered before.

If a fix for this is already in the works, is there any
way you can give me an estimate of when the fix would be
available for download?

Thanks,

Chris

What you are really looking for is not a software solution but a
change in organizational habits. The trick to audio file management
is:

1) Know where you are recording your files. Use project specific
folders to help keep things organized.

2) Name all of your files in a manner that makes sense, ie
guitar_take_one.wav

3) Delete any files that you're not going to use ASAP.

No program will organize or clean your harddrive for you. That is
something that you will have to get into the habit of.

Good Luck.
