Tape cataloging

I am curious about what workflow others are using to catalog their footage. Let me start by saying I do this as a hobby, not as a business but with about 50 DV and HDV tapes, I am trying to get them cataloged.

I currently use a simple Access data base where I capture the footage using HDV split (or Vegas for the DV footage) and then input the tape number, date shot, clip start/stop, description and filename it was captured to into Access. It works well and makes it easy to query for particular footage but was looking to share ways that other users are using to achieve the same end.

Thanks.

I just have a simple Excel spreadsheet that contains everything. However, I only catalog each event, not every scene.

NOTHING, but NOTHING beats scenalyser for dv cataloguing! the html with clips is superb....

however, there's NOTHING (well, that i know of) that does the same for hdv.

how does media manager stack up?

mekelly,

I have an Excel spreadsheet at the moment, but it's not an ideal solution. I'd rather move to a database eventually.

In addition to the data you've already mentioned, I also keep track of which finished DVDs I've put a particular scene on, and separately I keep track of all the DVDs I've made and what's on them (summary, not a scene-by-scene list).

See this older thread I started over in VMS: How do you manage your clips (assets/media)?

I agree. Do you know how to change where a file is located in Scenanalyzer? In other words, I captured a tape index but now want to move the files. It looks like the .scl file is always looking in the original captured location.

Can't seem to get it changed.

Thanks.

I do not have Scenalyzer here with me now, but it IS changeable. I do not use the defaults. Haven't for years.
