Terminology

Hello,

I'm a new user of "Vegas Movie Studio+DVD". I had previoulsy used ScreenBlast.

This is really elementary - I'm trying to get the latest software update from the Sony support page. What dows Sony call this? Is this program Vegas?

Is the Vegas Update 4.0e the latest version? I'm having a hard time correlating the product names on the Update page to the products I have (I also have SOundForge AudioStudio).

And what would be the proper forum for me - Vegas-Video or MovieStudio/VideoFactory?

Thanks.

The lineage is Video Factory -> Video Factory 2 -> Screenblast Movie Studio / Movie Studio 3 -> Vegas Studio 4. Note the word "Studio" in the title. This is not the same as the full "pro" version of Vegas. There haven't been any updates to Vegas Studio 4 yet. If you're still on Movide Studio 3 then you have to purchase an upgrade to version 4.

Vegas (not Studio) is now at version 5.0b. The 4.0e update you see is for the full version, not the studio version, since it doesn't have "Studio" in the name.

This is probably the most appropriate forum for questions about Movie/Vegas Studio. The majority of the people in this forum are also using the same software, or previous versions of it. You are certainly welcome to post in the full Vegas forum if you wish, however, you will then often get answers that only apply to the full pro version and may not be useful with the Studio version. It's also more likely that questions in this forum will be answered by people working on similar projects to yours where people in the full Vegas forum may be working on much more complex projects. I regularly visit most of the forums here whether i use the software or not. It's always good to learn more about what's out there.

Thanks for the clarification. The boxed version I bought is Version 4.0 (build 42). Since the Studio product isn't even listed on the Sony update page, I assume that the boxed version is still current.

The boxed version also includes "DVD architect studio" version 2.0. I found an update to DVD architect 2.0b and downloaded that only to find that DVD architect studio and DVD architect are two different products!

Lord, are we running out of words in the English language so that two different things have to be named almost the same?

Oh well. Now that I have the terminology straight, I'm looking forward to digging into this software. I really liked ScreenBlast.

I suppose Sony wanted to stress the family relationship, but how I'm expected to work out what that relationship is from the word "Studio" is beyond me!

It does kinda seem like "Studio" would refer to the higher level version since professionals often work in a studio, but it doesn't. It would probably help if the full versions had "Pro" or something like that in the name.
