Download the test tones from SoFo. I believe they are all in a zip file called either testtones.zip or tones.zip.

I was trying to remember where I picked up a few - Thankx filmy - shoulda known that one - duh!.

The sound forge update pages list a link to the mirror test tones. Sound forge xp used to feature a link to a bunch of audio files on SOFO's ftp site including test tones - not sure if they're still there, but I *Think* I remember them as being slightly different.

Otherwise, c-media has some for download I believe for checking out their multi channel cards/chips, Creative includes them with their drivers, I've come across audio prog. that create them, MS has a bunch of wav's, but no test tones I think at http://dgl.microsoft.com/default.asp?tPhrase=sounds, or go here: http://www.tmenet.com/rstcd.htm

Here:
SoFo sounds

It's not entirely free (although not expensive).
If you do a print to tape from the Vegas timeline (on the tools menu, not the file/render variation) you get the option to cretate a colour bar and 1 khz testtone in front of you project. That should do it. Just capture the tone back into Vegas and you got it.

I seem to remember that the old Nagras produced a test tone at the push of a button. And that the standard was -6 dB. Is it still?

if you want to just purchase the cd and have it all. If you just want a download of some -db tones check here: http://www.indigipix.com/videotips.htm.

I can't find the actual download on the SoFo site now. Keep in mind the Acoustic Mirror tones are *not* the test tones I was talking about.

A 48k tone can be downloaded here:

Other tone options:

Vegas gives you the option to generate tone during DV print to tape; fixed level of
-20db (per ATSC guidelines). Print tone to tape, recapture.

Sound Forge has the mother of all tone generators- tons of different options.
