Texing and emailing videos

Hello! What is the absolute smalled format to render a video so that I may text it or email it to someone. The video I have is 44mb, but still too large. Any ideas? It doesn't have to be great quality. Thanks in advance!

Well you can make it smaller by reducing the frame size ... and by reducing the bit-rate .. but you can easily get to the point that it looks like crap.

A much better way would be to post it online and send a link. On You Tube you can make a video "private" so that you need a link (that you send to your friend) to view it. It won't show up in any search.

I said YouTube, not Facebook. I'm not sure about FB. Haven't uploaded many videos there.

Facebook has privacy settings too.

Note that reducing the frame size won't make the file size smaller. Only reducing the bit rate or the duration can do that. However ... when the bit rate gets too low, reducing the frame size can drastically reduce compression artifacts so that smaller bitrates look better. One can also reduce the frame rate, which again won't reduce the file size, but can help look low bitrates look better as fewer frames need to be encoded.

Depending on how much "action" is in the video, you can also reduce the frame rate - from 30fps down to 15fps for example. That can cut your data rate (or file size) in half.

I just use my free DropBox account. You can then send them a link and they either play it from there or download. I believe you get 2g of storage on the free account. Another alternative for viewing only is Vimeo.
