I am sure that there has to be a script out there somewhere for this. Try searching on www.vasst.com for text scripts or post this in Vegas Scripts forum.
But yeah, you could do as you say and accomplish it but it would take a long time depending on how much text you want to do. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but hopefully I pointed you in the right direction.

I'll check out the vasst site tomorrow and look for a script on here. Thanks.

That video text was done with After Effects, it has oodles of plugs and presets for this sort of thing.

You can do this exact setup in SwishMax, just a few clicks. There is a preset in SwishMax that will do this. Download the demo, it'll let you see it.

There is a plug-in for (Bauhaus) Mirage that engineers anim fonts with similar capabilities to IndiaCG that was sun-downed by Apple and made MacOSX-only.
This is my preferred option:

Bob Tasa Mirage plug Oasis TextFX
Swish is a mainstay but I don't always like the lack of organic tools.

I've also broken my Vegas workflow on occasion and used this for CG:

If you have a copy of Boris, it will do that.
