Text animation doesn't respect anchor points

exean1-. wrote on 12/3/2018, 9:26 AM

Hello everyone!

I've encountered a problem where the text's anchor point becomes void when you add text animation to it

Here's an example:

The first one was what I wanted

The second one is what I got (after rendering from the text from the first window)

For the first window, the preview shows what the text box is supposed to look like, but it renders like the one in the second window.

Any suggestions?

-Thanks,

Exean1

Just trying to understand the issue. In the first one, it looks like it is "animated" slowly as if being typed. In the second, it is just smoothly revealed. Are you saying that it is not rendering out at the right speed?

In your first example the ancor point is set to "Left". In your second example the ancor point is set to "Center".

So you need to set the ancor point to "Left".

I tested this myself and the OP is correct. It does not work right. Try it for yourself.

The workaround is to reveal it with a mask.

In the video shown by exean1- two different anchor points were used, one left and one centered.

I just tested it and all I had to do was to add another keyframe after the last one made for the type writing.

I tried and it worked like OPs. If you close the TEXT window and play, it plays as you expect?

Indeed, there's something going wrong when closing the text window. But sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I had it working several times, then I could repro the issue, then again it works fine again. And when I close the Vegas project and restart the issue re-occurs.

Will try if legacy text works reliable.

Edit:
That doesn't work either.

The result was still the same, unfortunately. I hope it can be fixed soon because it's very demotivating to work with

Exean, like I mentioned, if the effect is important you can create a mask that reveals each letter giving the same effect.

Should it be officially reported as a bug? It's funny because I never use this function and would do the effect the way david-tu suggests, with an animated mask, which I think would be even faster.

I also think using an animated mask instead is a good way to go.

Another way is using the ProType Titler instead. Type writing fx can be done using a selection animation within the ProType Titler Layout tool. Dependend on the words and the font you use you'd only need two keyframes here.

Here is a sample project (VP16 only, zipped) which demonstrates ProType Titler used for a typewrite effect (and saved in the ProType Titler FX collection).
I know the first use of ProType Titler is kind of cumbersome. But I think it's worth spending some time getting used to it. It's still my favorite title tool in Vegas Pro (besides the legacy text tool for the simpler tasks) and things like this typewrite fx are done in less than a minute then.

Hi

Thank you all for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. I'll stick with the masking for now like what @Former user said as I am more familiar with the masking and possibly the typewriter sample project @Marco. suggested.
