Text Background color

When entering text on a video trac, I want to change the brackground color and text color. The text color changes as I select the appropriate color on the color bar, but the background color ,when I choose a different one, always stays black. I tried changing the color, then rendered the task, but the background is still black.
Any Suggestions???????????

See the little rectangular box with the checkered pattern next to the "RGB" color bars? That is the alpha control. Move it so the little rectangle is at the top. If you want a transparent background, move it to the bottom.
