The Heroglyph program makes the whole exercise trivial, a 5-minute job. But it's probably not worth plunking down the cash unless you do this for business purposes, where time = money. Especially if you want to do it frequently.

I wonder when was the last time anyone considered actually just shooting a hand writing/drawing something over say 10 seconds instead of spending 2-3 days to do it on a computer with 3D software, compositing software, FX software, online training, rendering, dual processors, ..., ..., etc.?

I suddenly remembered my start in titling, shooting plastic letters on a black cardboard background, sometimes shooting stop motion with one added letter at a time, etc.

At the time you couldn't get a computer to the work, even if you had redirected the entire GNP of the United States to try to buy one, and that manual work actually had a nice, organic feel to it.

My own handwriting is so awful it would completely unimpress any viewers on a video.

Ditto,

Coursedesign.

A lot is being done now with computers that can be done faster with real elements and creative shooting and editing. We are in the phase where it is forgotten for a while. Later it will come back as a great discovery.

thanks guys but i figured it out, I actually wasnt doing it to simulate handwriting anyway. But you use the gradiant brush to slowly reveal something, in this case I wanted to simulate a paint roller going across the screen as a transition.

found you need to set the brush to fade and then the amount up to like 7000+ worked pretty cool.

Some people want their writing effects to be "natural" while they crave the most outlandish transitions. In the old days Disney would let a brush make a slight drop on a map and leave the impression of a complex, four-coloured ship or an island. I mean, if you live in the land of magic, do like the magicians. Trust me, no one will judge your video by the realism of your onscreen writing.
Let go reality and make things just happen. Make video like Grazie makes posts in the forum: spontaneously, surpriseously, loveously and graziously.

just a thought, Particle iillusion SE has the abillity to record motion (and can also smooth out that motion)
Maybe do a Masked drawing for each letter??? white backing, black glob emtter (or something) ouput each one and composit in vegas...

should work.. havent tried it as im not really into the hand writing stuff..

Like I mentioned it wasnt to "actually " do the handwriting thing.
It was for another effect, using the method of handwriting writng example to create a progressive gradient.
But thanks again all.

Yes I had a look at doing it this way a couple of years ago. The secret is to use the Brush Variance pallette and set the Colour Blend or Opacity to Fade In. My message giving details in the thread where this was discussed a while ago is here.
