Child Track Compositing Mode=Source Alpha
Lower Track
Video clip will be fill in the above text

Result=Parent track text is a cutout from the Child background to reveal a lower video track image appearing as fill in the text.

Have you tried not using track parenting and just using the mask on an upper video track?

Steve, i tried your simplification of just using the generated media mask above 2 tracks below it and all i could get was transparency to the 2nd track while the 3rd track below is completely hidden by the media on the 2nd track..
