Please explain the proper way...I would like to place my intials in the lower corner of my video, but have the initials look see through or opacity over the video while playing.

If it's just your initials or any other straight text i would use the text generator. Under the properties tab you can reduce the opacity, or you can drag the top line of the text event down.

... and use the Bump Map with the Lower Left Spotlight preset to make the semi-transparent text have a 3D look.
