Text over photos

Hi there, i am wanting to know how i can put text over photos, and/or part of my video. I just want the text not the background that comes with the text when you inset a present. Please help.

Place your video or photos on track 2.
Open media generator and choose text with alpha background (checkerboard) and place it on track 1 right above video on track 2.
