Text overlay question

BrainPanBlues wrote on 9/20/2000, 4:22 PM

I have downloaded both Vegas Video and Video Factory, to
give both a test run before I buy.The problem I am having
in VV is laying text media over the video track, I can't
seem to make the background transparent. I don't seem to
have this problem with VF, as it does it automatically.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I would
love to purchase VV instead of VF, but not at the expense
of a black block over my video.

Hey Bobby -
Just make sure the text event is above the video event you want it to
overlay. Don't make either a compositing child. This works fine on
mine.

Using VV, for the absolute best in quality, use an external program
such as Paint Shop Pro, MS Image Composer, MS PhotoDraw 2000 etc. for
all your title work. Even SF tells you this in the manual. Also,
create your title image as the same size as your final output. e.g.
720 X 480. Finally, save your title as an .png file which will
include an Alpha transparency layer and VV reads these great. I
create black background images with any color text on top. VV also
does great with titles using the Pan and Crop tools. As Charles
said, ensure your titles are on tracks above your background videos.
The VV Manual has very good coverage of all these topics and I can
tell you they work great as advertised.
Hope this helps...

There's one little important step that I think you guys are forgeting,
I had just been banging my head against the wall with this one too.
On the Text Track you have to switch the "Compositing Mode" to
multiply(mask). Otherwise you'll get the block effect around the text
like he originally described. Am I correct with this? This is how I
finally got it to work, now I'm gonna try to get this text to fly
around the screen....oh gosh, wish me luck. I read the manual and
read through the tutorial which seems pretty good, but I still think
there's too much about video editing that I don't understand,
especially when they start talking about the whole Keyframe thing.
