Text plugin bug

LarsHD wrote on 5/16/2009, 8:10 AM
Text made in Pro 8:

Arial Narrow, Tracking 0.063, Scaling 0.030, Leading 0.030

Opening that in Vegas Pro 9 in Vista 64 (both Pro 9 32 an dPro 9 64) it comes up as just Arial and 0.000, 0.000, 0.000 and the typeface menu is empty.

It seems like *some* (not all) text that is made in Pro 8 and saved in XP 32 bit, when opened in 64 bit Vista lose information and text look different, having lost info needed to display right.

This makes Pro 9 not backwards compatible.

Tried same font but diff properties, I can't confirm problem. Text looked just the same in v9 as in v8. All properties and typeface were correct. Created in v8, opened in v9 trial. 32 bit on XP Pro SP2.

Some texts are transferred ok from Pro 8 to Pro 9. Most actually. But not all. Its a repeatable bug here. So perhaps something to keep an eye on thugh...

This makes Pro 9 not backwards compatible. - What do you mean, LarsHD? No version has been backward compatible? I can't open V8 in V7, nor V7 in V6? What do you mean?

If you read the rest of what he says it's pretty clear he means "forward compatible" in Grazie.
He explains that he's opening a V8 project in V9 and seeing a problem.

His confusion is quite understandable as being able to run old programs in later operating systems is oftenly called "backwards compatibility". In fact by industry norms he's correct.

I mean:

If I have 250 projects fror a client created in Vegas Pro 8 that involves the text plugin I want to be able to use Pro 9 to open these projects and the text plugins should behave the same.

I do *not* mean that I expect Pro 9 projects to open in Pro 8...

I concur. Some fonts that are in VP8 are missing in VP9. In fact I need to change credits in a VP8 project I thought was done, but now the font I need is missing in VP9 when I open the project.

I need Calligraph421 BT. Is there anyway I can get it without reinstalling VP8? Thanks. SS.

Vegas uses the fonts that are installed on the system. I don't think re-installing V8 will do anything to solve V9 not seeing certain fonts.
