Grazie, you're not paying attention, are you? The address was in a post some posts ago. Scroll up a bit, will you.
(I know you have a laptop, so I'm guessing you're in a pub somewhere, what? By the way. I've got my ticket for the end of November. If SAS don't go bankrupt in the meantime, I'll be there.)

OK,believe there must be a bug then.I am aware of that the dark outline can be seen in the timeline so why dont it show on the screen?
And dont say anything about the vikings drinking.Remember that American beer taste like making love in a canoe - its close to water
Chienworks wrote on 6/26/2003, 5:14 PM

I see you have an effect applied on the text track... what is it? Maybe it's something that would take the black outline and turn it transparent?

Thanks Kelly!

. . . . . . . I shed - I SHED! . . . .wot did Ishay?? .. . . .

. . are we any further forward with this text issue?

The Video Factory Legacy plugin works like a charm in V4 - Why aint this available in V4 Legacy Plugin? In comparison it appears the former out performs the latter. Or have I missed something here?

An effect added? I have to investigate this...
puttes wrote on 6/27/2003, 8:44 AM
no still the same...

puttes,

we seem to be going round and round here - could you maybe save a .veg file containing just the problem text item and send it to those who want to help by email? We could then at least see if it behaved the same on our machines or maybe spot a setting that is causing it.

mine is ariad(at)iinet.net.au

sure
PeterWright wrote on 7/4/2003, 1:26 AM
Just thought that those who particpated in this thread may like to hear the outcome - I asked Anders to send me the veg, and after appearing to be an unsolvable mystery for a while, I spotted a small "+" on the Text track header.

The composite mode was set to "Add".
Changing this back to the default "Source Alpha" brought the outline back into view!

Another one for the casebook ...

Peter - The interesting thing for me to learn from you is why, WHY on Earth did you think to do this?! - Exceptional! - Please tell me why - Was it a case of seeing that something was different, something wasn't the same as you had or what?

In any event - brill!

It was an interesting experience, Grazie - I opened the project and sure enough the text outline didn't show, so I knew it wasn't just Anders' installation of Vegas.

I tried creating a new Text event, and that was the same. Then, for no particular reason - maybe curiosity mixed with desperation - I did the old Ctrl - Shift Q to create a new video track, and put a new Text item there. and lo and behold, the outline worked!

I dragged the same Text to Anders' track and the outline disappeared. Aha, I thinks to meself - there's something different between those two tracks. There were no FX, no Track motion, so I was about to go to bed and sleep on it when I saw the little "+" and the rest is history instead of mystery ....

Absolutely Brilliant! - Sometimes I think this NLE stuff should come with a Government Health/Sleep Warning!

Y'know, SoFO could make a little recognition of this in the Media Properties menu. Say when you go to try to apply outline, the box is either "greyed" out OR, better still, when you try and click on outline it could say "You have ADD as part of this track setup. If you wish to proceed return Track setting to . . . . ." or whatever a shortened message could do.

I'll tell you a story . . . . . . I had another ass-about-face procedure when using VidCap in VF. VidCap kept telling me that I hadn't a device connected - I DID TOO! Y'know the thing that did it? My capture folders had gone walkabout. Once I set my cap folders again -"Oh I see you've got a capture device after all!!" - Y'know the type of thing? WELL, now in V4 a nice polite little message comes up and says something along the lines of "Hey - wanna give me some folders to capture to? If it isn't too much trouble?" Something along those lines, anyway.

What I'm saying, sometimes the left hand don't even know the right hand exists at all!

Soooo.... maybe yer wanna contact SoFo with a thing for 4.0d or 5.0a - nice one Peter. Often I ask these questions to find out the TRUE devils in the detail - better esp. with SoFo V4 it's the ANGELS in the detail - yeah?

I really do appreciate the "interesting experience" bits 'n pieces - gives me a complete/better understanding of the "logic" behind stuff - esp s/w writers - yeah? - Thanks for explaining - too kind.

I could add a similar story which again highlights how when faced with seemingly intractable technical problems its usally something so simple our brains refuse to even look there.

We recently hired a DVCPRO 50 VCR to a client, we hadn't really been able to check it out as well as we would have liked as he needed it setup to play NTSC and we don't exactly have too many DVCPRO 50 NTSC tapes in Australia. Anyway shortly after he got the machine he rings up to tell us its a total dud, press play and no pictures.

After 20 minutes of discussions on the phone checking everything out... you guesed it, tape is at the end.
PeterWright wrote on 7/4/2003, 5:39 AM
Yeah - I've never quite got my head around it all, but p.190 of the Vegas manual has pics showing what each of the compositing modes does.

I suspect that the disappearance of the outline is a side effect of the Add mode rather than a feature it was intended to have. As you suggest, Grazie, maybe an addendum to each description might help - "Warning, using this mode will disable outline/ endanger your health, whatever ....
