You have to dbl click in the FX timeline itself.
Before you do that you have to click the Animate button.
In fact once you've clicked the animate button simply changing the color will create a keyframe.

Okay, I've been fiddling with this and found that the easiest way (for me, anyway) was to use ushere's compositing technique create a separate clip for each word, while placing the full text in an alternate color on a track, below. I merely used pan/crop to isolate the word as it was easlier than using the cookie cutter or masking. Furthermore, I found it easier to sync with the music by adjusting the position/length of the event in the timeline - as opposed to keyframing.

Good Luck!

PS: Plan to spend some time doing this - as it was rather labor intensive.

Bezier mask is quick and easy. Just to try, I added text to a section of a short practice video taken w/ my TM700 on Ford Island and Marine Corps base here in Hawaii. The two text tracks are child tracks so I could position them at the same time.

This took about 30 minutes to add the text to an existing video.

Key framing Bezier mask will also allow you to pause and speed up the highlighted text with the audio.

Here a quick demo and screen shot of what I'm referring to.

BTW, I realize that there are many folks from may great countries on this forum and the music and video was not intended to cram American patriotism down anyone's throat, though I am a U.S. ARMY vet. (:

The music and lyrics were just easy to find on the web.

Well, it is now dear boy . . it is now. One of the Woohoos that came about in VP10. In fact ALL the GenMeds are. May not have Markers - YET - but syncing is there in VP10

I loaded up V8 on my wife's laptop, didn't check my V10 yet, but YEAH! :) But he never said what version he's using.

I know, I didn't know V10 lets you sync courser with text events, it was an excited "yeah" because that's a really cool feature imho, not a mocking "yeah".

So thanks for letting me know that. :)

I know, I didn't know V10 lets you sync courser with text events…

I know, I know.

When I first tripped over it, I wet meslf, fell off me editing chair, trembled, frothed at the mouth, recovered and was last seen running through the streets of London shouting: "We're Saved! We're saved! - Sync Cursor has been set free, and has come to liberate our inner creativity!"

Yeah, alright… get a grip…

Grazie

Grazie, I think you need to switch to decaf coffee (or tea if that's your thing).

In the Text Media properties, one can highlight a single word and change the font/bold/Italics for a single word or letter.

Not that I'm expecting any changes from Sony on the Text Media Generator, but wouldn't it make more sense to be able to change the color (and possibly the Outline & Shadow properties), as well, in the "Edit" tab? Thereby, one could change these properties for individual letters & words.

Furthermore, it would seem that the alignment selection (right, center, left) is more appropriately placed in the "Properties" - as this parameter applies to the entire text.

Use text as a mask

Then you can put whatever you want = image, texture, color

This whole veg file is made of masks so you can change frames and textures to all the elements
e-mail me if you want the veg file version 10

masks
Rory Cooper wrote on 1/3/2011, 1:13 AM

There are a set of frames and masks to match in the zip file
Open comp file to edit composite, right click on image track select edit to edit and replace images and frames
Right click drag and drop frames and or pics /textures and select add as take to replace
Use the same background clip/video or image in texture for masks. = to match scene.
For the water reflection replace images and shift mask to match horizon line. if the horizon line is very high or low 3rd.s rotate the noise texture
To match ,that’s it.

Thanks, Jerry, finally got a chance to have a look at this and it is exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of but couldn't figure out how to get. Your veg file example is very clear and very useful.

Cheers,

Kit

Thanks, Byron, for taking the time to put that together. I'll definitely have to look into bezier masks - I've never used one!
