First let me apologize for starting a new thread over purchasing a Sony fx1.

This is more to introduce myself and thank all of you who have so graciously shared their time and knowledge to help all the new video photographer and those just in need.

I’m a 59 year old retired fireman living in southeast Florida. I have advanced degrees in photography and art with a few years teaching college under my belt. Video is a wonderers medium and I am constantly amused at what a person can do on his own home computer.

I have been watching the postings on this forum for almost two years on a daily basis and only logged on last month for the first time when things began to changed a bit. I am totally blown away with the professionalism , friendliness and a deep concern to help other in need when dealing with anything concerning video ( and sometimes other topics ) received here.

This is truly one of the greatest forums on the net that I am aware of,….. Very educational, very friendly, and oh soo often funny to the pit of my stomach. I have never taken anything posted in an offensive way and have learned immensely from each entry I read.

Thanks to you all,…

I researched and revisited my decision on purchasing a video camera after reading the many appreciated comments from my first post,… thank you all and especially those from GregFlowers, RalphM, who sent me in the direction I know down deep I need to go,…

I purchased from dbuys.com a new Sony FX1 for $3875.00 with the following package,…

1. Battery upgrade 8 hrs.
2. Case
3. Tripod - fluid head 3 way pan
4. 3 lens filter set
5. Telephoto lens
6. Wide angle lens
7. Lens cleaning kit
8. Extra mini dv tapes
9. 4 year extended warranty
10. Shipping - 2 day

I know I may need to upgrade a few items soon but this should be getting me on my way.

Thanks so very much for all the great help in the past and I will be looking forward to contributing myself sometime in the future,….

Rick

You're right, the people on this forum are pretty awesome and their willingness to share their knowledge is kind of mind-bending. It's a fantastic resource for budding video artists.

When you finish a project please let me know. I'd like to see your work.

Good luck to you, Rick. This forum is one of a kind. I've been in various technical fields over the last 10 years, and I've never seen a community as active and knowledgeable as this one. I'm always blown away when I ask a question, refresh two minutes later, and there's already an answer.

I also echo Rick's sentiments. Thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge. Everyone's time is valuable, and yet there's always someone willing to help out in this forum. I'd like to say how much I appreciate everyone's contributions.
