I told you, Sony Vegas will take over the world. This just again confirms it.

Very professional to admit a problem, suggest a temp fix and offer final resolve.

Proud of ya guys !!!

For those who are new to SCS and Vegas, you may not realize the immensity of this announcement and hence Bob's very appropriate "seismic" description of the event. SCS has never announced a date for a patch before, and the very fact that they saw it necessary to publicly commit to a date shows, in my mind, their commitment to customer satisfaction. This is very welcome news (I had already backed off 9.0a in favor of 9.0 so I eagerly await 9.0b).

Well done Sony!

"most of us are very much in your corner. Continuing great communication like this in the future will build great trust."

This is worth repeating a thousand times. :-)

And when the date slips...

We'll get the wiseguys in Australia, New Zealand, Tuvalu - that general region - complaining that no patch is available because the US wakes up as they're off to bed!

The exact wording is, "Vegas Pro 9.0b update targeting August 28th". Note the word "targeting". This means that Sony still have flexibility to move it around in case they find additional problems, etc., but what it does mean is that the patch is coming sooner rather than months down the line.

All it all, it is nice to see that a problem has been acknowledged and that a fix is being worked on and is coming soon.

There are no absolutes in software development... part science... part art. ;-) (...which is why musicians usually make great programmers)

is 9.0b going to be tested by beta testers?

or have we all been recruited again to help with beta testing?
freeLANCEr wrote on 8/14/2009, 8:50 AM
Thanks Sony, at least some feedback from SCS. It had me worried. Now I can look forward to "target date" this month. It is amazing what an anouncement can make to the attitude.

I appreciate that this text bug was an annoying one but I don't understand why SCS responds so promptly to a recent bug whereas f.i. the "video buffer underflow" error in DVDA is allowed to exist for so long (see http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=664984&Replies=29 ).

It is a showstopper for anyone who wants to use AVC on Blu-ray. Is DVDA becoming SCS's Cinderella?

These posts show that everyone here just wants a little information. We love the product or we wouldn't have spent the money, comments are usually for the betterment of the software and the help I get here from all the users has been invaluable. All Sony did was a simple "hey, we hear you, we are working on it" and that put a lot of smiles on faces.

Great Work and Great product Sony, many other little tweaks to go (couple big ones would be nice too) but way to go.

I am amazed that there are not more decenting voices, I am not anti Vegas or anti Sony and I have no axe to grind. Perhaps it is a major departure for madison to acknowledge and suggest a fix date for the bug but i dont see why people should fall over themselves to congratulate Sony at this late stage for making an announcement about a show stoppping bug when it has done a great deal of damage to a lot of paying customers. An early download link to the original V9 would have been nice for those that did not have it on their system. Maybe I am missing something.

Yes you are. Sure it would have been even better if this announcement had come sooner rather than later. The very significant point is that it came at all.
When I first suggested they should do something like this at least one person here said I was being childish because no one else does it. Maybe the latter is true, if so someone (SCS) have broken rank. For having the guts to do that they certainly deserve our heartfelt thanks. When they see the positive value of keeping the customers informed maybe next time (heaven forbid that there is a next time) they'll be quicker off the mark.

So PLEASE let's not turn this into another bitch fest. They've done the right thing, if you feel they could have done better then maybe you're right but no one can turn the clock back and change history. Let's be glad for what they HAVE done and look forward to better times ahead.

Bob.

It likely means that the fix is in beta test.

Bob, Ulf,
I have no interest in bitching or threatening to go to another software or any other nonsense like that, but I wont give thanks either for basic service. If this acknowledgement is a sea change for Sony then it is an overdue one and I do welcome it.
