The 4 DVD-series on Vegas 4.0

Spot|DSE wrote on 5/30/2003, 12:22 AM
The 4 DVD-series from Class on Demand is now shipping. Nearly 7 hours of Vegas 4, it's somewhat like a VASST on disk, but not quite the same. Very different from the (still) forthcoming Vegas book, and shows some of the new features in Vegas 4c. Some cool bluescreen/keying stuff in there, because Class on Demand's studio has a really nice seamless bluescreen wall in their facility.
Currently on sale for 99.00 for all 4.

I was wondering how different the information from the book differs from the DVD which is different from the VASST tour. I would like to do all three, But realistically its the book or DVD or online manual (which is free).

When IS the book coming out? I ordered the book months ago and am still patiently waiting.
DavidPJ wrote on 5/30/2003, 8:45 AM
I've also asked this question but nobody seems to know, other than what Amazon.com is quoting. I'm also waiting for the book.

I've had trouble with Class On Demand's web site, which would not allow me to order the DVD set. Because of this, I had time to reconsider the purchase and decided to not purchase it.

I wish I knew the answer on the book. It was turned into the publisher back in February. Originally was supposed to ship shortly after NAB, but they had the copy editor assigned to the book quit due to pregnancy. Sorta left it hanging for nearly 3 weeks. Apparently is going to ship in early June.
Class on Demand had just moved to a new shopping cart vendor last week, my understanding is that their online sales issues are also over.
Sorry for any inconvenience there.

Place your order by phone. I just did it and it was fast and simple, on and off in three minutes. I live near Chicago, so I was told I should have my DVDs by Monday or Tuesday. Too cool!!

Spot,

The shopping cart is still buggy, AFAIK. I tried 2x to place an order yesterday, and finally gave up and called. It kept telling me that "company name" was a required field (it was not marked as so). After filling it in, it gave me another error about not filling in another required field called, literally, "".

Dang, I hope they get that fixed ASAP. Class on Demand uses a third party shopping cart, unlike our private one for VASST. Apparently the third party isn't as quick to fix issues as COD is. I'll keep on em'. Sorry about that. We'll have more parts to this series coming soon, BTW....

Spot, you said $99, the site says $129. I want the $99 deal!! Any suggestions?

Call them to make the order -- you'll get the $99 deal and the whole process will take about two minutes.

Anyone receive theirs yet?
jwreese wrote on 6/3/2003, 10:44 AM
I called in an order today. They stated that they would have the product in tomorrow. I did a 2nd day FedEx and they indicated a Monday delivery date.

I got mine yesterday (Monday). I started watching, but only got about 15 minutes in to Disc 1. Looks great and very clear and detailed. Already learned a lot. Between my full-time job, my wife, two kids under 7, and working on a plot of land we hope to build on soon, I don't have a whole lot of time to spend with experimenting and reading the manual. I figure a half-hour or so with the DVDs here and there will get me going faster than reading the manual or tutorials. I'm looking forward to every minute I can spend with Spot.

Ordered mine today. I'm also very busy with many things, as I'm sure most are. Anyways, looking forward to getting them, since the book is taking forever.

Any early feedback on SPOT's DVD Vegas series? Are lots of people having DVD compatibility issues or just a few?

I learn best from books, so I'm curious as to what people are saying regarding learning from this DVD set. Is it mostly good for picking up tips in a non-linear approach? Or, could it also be used from start to finish to really learn Vegas? Thanks.

I received the DVD's last Monday and highly recommend them. I am now on the second DVD of the 4 DVD set. Taking notes and reviewing them after each session. Admittedly, I am new to Vegas, but I do believe that digesting all of the info from the tapes will make either a pro or a highly advanced journeyman. I keep Vegas open on my PC while I go through the DVD, pausing to go back and forth coping that Spot is doing in the session.
They have indeed helped me.

I just received my DVD set today...a day early.

Apparently Class On Demand upgraded me to overnight shipping at no additonal charge. That was very kind.

The DVD's are excellent. (This was my Father's Day present).

Very worthwhile purchase.

I got the set a few days ago and decided to just run through them in one day to get a taste. Class on Demand got them to me in a reasonable time. I am a novice and played with Premiere and thought I would give Vegas a try. I think Douglas Spotted Eagle does a very good presentation and I feel the set is definitely worth the price. He is very clear in the material he covers and he presents it in a logical fashion. I do however wish there was more coverage in the controls, icons and indicators in the timeline area. I would be happy to pay more for a bigger set. There is approximately six hours of instruction and I guess I want eight… no ten… no… you get the idea. I built what I think is a very powerful computer system for authoring so I hope to load Vegas on and then review the disks again in a slower fashion. My objective is to produce simple educational DVD’s at the college level.

Jwreese,

Caught on another DMN board, from Spot/DSE, that there is an advanced training DVD series in the works. No dates but looks promising.

I purchased the DVD series and I'm very happy with the material. I'm now on the second disk. DSE does a great job of presenting Vegas in a clear and logical order.

The only thing I wished the set had was a way of knowing exactly where you are on the disk. It is not possible to obtain the play time or chapters while playing the DVD on my home theater Pioneer DVD player. Although my DVD player has the resume capability, I can't always leave the DVD in the player at all times.

I hope the next version of DSE's DVD training will include more granular chapter marks and play time. Also, DSE may wish to slow down the positioning of the cursor. Sometimes it's hard to follow where the cursor is and what is being selected.

Class on Demand did an excellent job of taking my phone order and promptly delivering the DVD set.

I'm looking forward to DSE's next Vegas training edition!

Am about 2/3 of the way through DVD 2 and am really getting alot out of this training set. I am a new user to Vegas, coming over from Studio. Got a great deal of basic information out of the first DVD. Looking forward to the rest of the sessions.

Money was well spent.

Thanks for the comments, feedback, suggestions, and criticisms. All taken down, and will be considered and/or implemented in the advance series. Working on them now, but if there are specific suggestions, please let me know privately, as I'm traveling a lot and can't always deal with the load times of bad hotel dialups.

We finish shooting these on July 15, so time is fairly short. Looking forward to hearing from you.
