maybe we could trim the fat a little bit and make a list of MUST HAVES for a mixer multitrack. Here's my view

1. REAL Auto-input. During stop and record, channel monitors input. During play channel monitors tape. During punches monitors tape up to the punch in point at which it switches to monitor input then at punch out switches back to monitor tape again.

This should be defeatable for those who like to work the other way, and for times when double monitoring as it currently is is perferred.

Not having auto input drives paying customers NUTS as they hear both the part they are playing AND the part that is on tape, then all of a sudden hear the insane level drop of ONLY hearing wehat they are currently playing. NOT good for many professional situations

2. Direct outs This may be necessary anyway to make auto input work correctly. As it stands now channels can be assigned to STEREO busses, and to get out mono must be panned or use the completely insane double bussing scheme some have alluded to. We need a STRAIGHT direct out that requires no pan to go to the assigned output. PERIOD

3. Punch on the fly. This needs to be done without killing vegas' record everything paradigm, except when punching on the fly. I cant count the number of times someone was messing around during playback and I wanted the chance to record what they were doing. I didnt have ANY warning to arm the track earlier and stopping playback to arm would have destroyed the whole vibe anyhow. This needs to be here

4. Sidechains. The 3rd party plugs dont work so well for this. An internal sidechain ability would be oh so welcome

5. Inserts. The ability to send and return to and from the PC's hardware I/O.This is a hard one to implement surely but it needs to be done. Some sort of latency compensation will be needed as well adding difficulty. Yes it can (sort of ) be done as it stands but come on

Regarding request 1) - please make it selectable/defeatable.
I have no need for that functionality.

Pipe..... You are so right on the money!!!

I would not add a thing. You represent an excellent example of an appropriate understanding of real world professional tracking and monitoring.

Pipe, if ever you need a letter of recommendation, I'll be glad to provide it. Just contact me anytime at:

Contact TMR

BGC.... What in the hell is with you guys? ..... if you would actually read the document instead of glance over it carelessly (probably the same way you record, based on the fact that you would not care to use #1 as an option), then you would recognize that he specifically indicated that this option could be switchable for non-pro environment users.

Stop listening to High School Teachers for theories in proper recording and monitoring operational scenarios and start listening to people who make a living as recording engineers and have done so exclusively for decades.

Yeah Pipe, you'll want to jump on that offer. A lot of people are familiar with TMRpro String rip off CD's. He's even producing a compilation CD for "Vitamin" records. I'm just waiting for the Vitamin "B-side" to come out. I'm just wondering if Vitamin records has a HARD rock sub-division, maybe "Viagra records", I hear they're a pretty HARD core rock label.

A compilation for Vitamin records?

Hey RednRoll, I'm proud to say that I am currently working on my 20th LP for international release on Vitamin Records. Of which two have been nominated for a Grammy as "Pop Instrumental Album Of The Year".

Actually, a little information for your punk A%$ F&*ck ignorance RED...

Vitamin is a sub label of CMH Records that has a Punk Rock label called Crosscheck.

Furthermore, it is only one of the 14 labels that I regularly produce and master for.

Now, who do you work for ...RednRoll@SomedayMayGetRealGigByGivingSomeoneABJ.Com?

Is it AKG or is it some majestic car stereo company or is it a High School in Canton, MI .... Maybe you don't do anything but talk a pile of sh*t. Because there is nothing at all, in this world that anyone has ever been able to find anywhere that you are associated with, that has anything to do with the music business.

OH WAIT....You have been discovered a complete BS'er associated with nobody@nothing.com ....LMFAO!

That's beautiful Pipe!

;) Keep up the great work!

I've listened to some of the clips that you were working on a long time ago and I loved your work then and I'm sure it has only gotten much better!

Congrats on the RP splash!
