I haven't been following Acid too closely. Would you care to go through some points and point out their hugeness and how they could relate to Vegas? If you have time, of course.
Remember how Vegas audio users were underwhelmed with Vegas 6 because most of the upgrade were video related?
It seems like Sony's philosophy is Acid is now their audio/music tool. It used to be you did loops in ACID, but mixed in Vegas and did multitrack recording in Vegas. Now Acid can do those things. On top on that they added MIDI.
Most Vegas audio users probably had Acid too, now if everything is now in Vegas, they only have to upgrade one application.
No announcement. Product is available in March. Upgrade from Acid 4** should be the same as the regular upgrade price. I bet you can upgrade for under $200 at least during the first month, when they usually offer a discount.
The overall Price of Acid seems to be going up though.
I'm loving the New Features of ACID6.
Hopefully some of them will trickle over into VEGAS 7. Although I doubt too many will since they would much rather you have to purchase Both products as appossed to only buying one.
Just wish they would do away with theugly/blocky 'Windows 2000' looking GUI. I'd much rather see something 'snappier' & more Professional looking. I still think the Sony MediaSuite Apps look like Consumer 'toys'. They're definitely professional but I don't think people look at it like that when they see the GUI sitting next to FCP, Avid, Edius, or even Premiere Pro.
I Love the Power of the MediaSuite. I'd just like for it to look a little more Bad @$$!
I'm soooo not trying to start a GUI debate. I run a 'Skin Management' program to try and give it 'That' look.
I just posted this on the Crossfade forum when someone said a very similar thing about the Sony UIs:
- Set Windows to the 'Classic' UI look
- Under Windows Appearence prefs, select 3D objects and choose a darker grey
- Under Vegas prefs, Display, turn down all the colour saturation quite a bit.
>> The result? Looks pretty pro
[and of course, we should be careful about throwing around the word 'GUI'. The Sony GUIs are fantastic - the most elegant things out there. What we're referring to here is more the skin of the UI, ie how they look. Cos for functionality nothing else beats 'em!]
Thanks for the pricing info - that upgrade sounds like a sweet deal.
The "Vegas interface Gui" has kind of grown on me, I'ts probably because I associate it with positive experiences. It aint fancy or "cool" but it always looks like something solid to me. On the other hand I swear to God I get an anxiety attack whenever I look at the Premiere interface - probably one of the reasons I had to stop using it :)
NAB is late April, so that gives them about a month.
There is going to be a Vegas users party at NAB. I will be shocked if that is party is not within a day of the release of Vegas. I don't think the details can be released yet.
Perhaps they will do what they are doing with Acid which is make the announcement and demo the product and release Vegas in May or so.
Upgrade from Vegas 4 should be the same as the regular upgrade price. I bet you can upgrade for under $200 at least during the first month, when they usually offer a discount.
Do they ever offer lower prices for cross-upgrades? I think your "Vegas 4" was supposed to say "ACID 4," but it made me wonder. As a non-ACID owner, but a Vegas owner, could I get ACID for less than retail?
