Yeah,
When you feel the energy the few bars of Who music lends to the opening of CSI, it is no wonder they are one of the greatest rock bands ever - unlike The Stones, who hasn't done anything inventive since 1965.

Yes I just finished reading that in my favorite morning online newspaper (The BBC). It is very exciting.

John

Jagger is 62. He still moves around the stage like a 20 year old.

Hi Grazie - yes fond memories of the Who - I can't image them without John Entwhistle - what a Bass player!!

On a Who DVD -sorry the title has escaped me - you can watch a live performance of "Won't Get Fooled Again" with the full mix, then watch it again whilst just listening to Entwhistle playing bass - I've always regarded that as a definitive example of rock bass playing.

At least I got to see the Who when they were still somewhat the Who (Pete, Roger, John, and Kenny Jones). Got to hang out a bit with John in later years when he was doing a solo tour. Very nice guy and just one of the most amazing bass players I have ever seen.

Bur back "on topic" - it would be kind of cool to see Roger and Pete at leeds. Is Pete going tp be playing electric or is he still forced to stand off to the side of the stage in his quite area playing acoustic?

And on a total off topic - any comments on Hilary Duffs cover of "My Generation"? IMO it is odd that she really trys to be this little rocker chick but for this classic song she tones it way down and just "bores it up". And I guess I can sort of get why she changed the line "Hope I die before I get old" to "hope I don't die before I get too old'. her version of "Our Lips are Sealed" totally rocks however. I used to feel the best live concert would consist of The Who, Van Halen (David lee Roth line up), The Go-Gos and The Ramones. Justy some of ther best and most amazingly fun live bands I have ever seen. All had awesome energy and didn't have to have all sorts of pyro or wear make up to be great.

I saw the Stones as well - actually saw them in 81 and a new artists was opn the bill - Prince. He came out and started to play his guitar and people just were like "Wow - oh my God, who is this? He is amazing!!" and then he opened his mouth and started to sing "I can wack you off in the back seat...ohhhh" and suddenly jaws dropped and slowy 90,000 people started to boo and pelt him with paper cups.

The Kids are Alright - the latest version of it with the 5.1 remix of the film.

Anybody remember "Quadraphonic Sound", the forerunner to Surround Sound where phasing games were played to get rear channel ambience?

During a brief period I worked at a consumer electronics store and also worked at a radio station partime. I borrowed a copy of the Live at Leeds Quad album from the station and used it to demo quad at the store. Sold a BUNCH of systems off that LP.

Wish I still had a copy. I just dubbed off Won't Get Fooled Again from an ancient cassette and added it to my digital oldies collection. It's amazing how some of my cassettes have held up for 30+ years! Others are pure slush now.

EDIT:

Well, just in case, I checked my meager remaining LP collection, but alas - no Live at Leeds. However, I did find some John Mayall, Savoy Brown and Ten Years After that I haven't listened to in ages, so the day was not a waste. They'll be what the family will have to endure tomorrow - after all, it's father's day!

I've been collecting all the old videos and concert movies from the early British rock groups. The Who have more preserved on film than almost anyone. I have some amazing footage of them long before they made their impact in the US at the Monterey Pop Festival. Pretty interesting and raw stuff.

As for Jaggar, I have a clip of him and the Stones in 1964. He looks about fifteen, and they are playing with tiny little amps that were smaller than what our garage group used back then. When you then see all the clips from 1965, 1966, etc., you can see how rapidly they progressed technically, musically, and also in age. Jaggar and Richards went from 16 to 40 in about three years.

I bet they were Vox. Never underestimate a Vox.

Whatever you do don't buy this DVD. It was manufactured incorrectly. Menus do not work correctly. Chapters were incorrecly authored. Fortunately I have had a VHS tape of them performing the same version of Tommy for years. When I returned the DVD to Barnes and Noble the clerk said he had gotten a LOT of returns.

Pete Townshend is way into the internet. He now has a blog The Boy Who Heard Music

All concerts for this Who tour will be broadcast live here Including the LEEDS show which is in about an hour from this post. Cost is a 99cent donation to charity.

You can find quicktime videos of Who rehearsals online here. Pete is playing electric.

I thought this was pretty cool. This guy got a comment from Pete Townshend on his blog.

Another thing I thought was pretty cool was someone had posted a rocking little advert the Rolling Stones had done for Rice Krispies before they hit it big. It was up on youtube.com, but it has been pulled.
You can still find it at videovat here

Speaking of Leeds check out this photo here.

Cooler yet - Tho Who 'real time" CD's and DVD's.

>>>DVDs of live performances (except Leeds)<<<

Awwwww man!

The DVD's of each show will be shot with a four camera crew and we expect to have both a surround and stereo mix on each disc.

Very cool idea. I want that gig!
