...the old days..

...just finished updating hours of training videos that were originally shot 20 years ago ...back then I had the talent stand in front of an analog camera reading from cue cards held by someone off to the side (you could see his face drift on screen) ...the editing was a nightmare...everything was done a million times until a complete take was free of content errors...had no equipment so all editing was done in-camera...another nightmare...12 desk lamps lit the kitchen where I shot...the master tapes deteriorated faster than you could spit and the cuts looked like they were done by Edward Scissorhands..

..production time:
1 minute of video = 24 hours of pain and suffering

...then came desktop video...did the same thing...talent in front of DV camera...free teleprompter software on a laptop placed under the lens...editing in Vegas3 was like stumbling into Valhalla while heading to the kitchen for a peanut butter sandwich...put out split screen videos in a dozen different formats and added wipes and fades like I was Hitchcock...

..production time:
1 minute of video = 1 hour of bliss

...I love digital stuff...Vegas makes me a whole person....I still don't like producing videos or doing any other work for that matter...I'd rather be rich so I could goof off all the time...but if you gotta do it, do it with Vegas...
