Hi. I read more posts than books concerning 16bit vs 24.
Yesterday i paid $75 repacking fee for an audigy 2 (sh&%igy) card, falling for the 24bit skeme thing like thousands (or millions) of people.
Down to business, if sound is mixed in VV using 16bit with a repectable sound card. Can it ouput to film sound dynamic range. 16bit has dynamic range of 96DB. Is that right?
My understanding is that 35mm analog film has around a hundered something? My main question, is 24bit necessary or a luxury, since it gives more dynamic range. I read tomlinsons book (not to say go by books only)
but according to his expertise in sound, he states that 16bit is alright if only one track in the mix. But if more tracks go into the mix, a true 16 bit can not be reproduced. Should i be mixing in 24bit then outputting to 16 with dither???
Thank you.
