The Vegas name.... Help or Hinder?

While I have no problem with the name Vegas, when prospective clients ask what NLE I edit on, I find myself saying Adobe Premiere (my previous NLE) and Vegas Video. It's like I want to tell them something they've heard of before, and then my actual NLE. I haven't used Premiere to edit on in over a year, but the fact is, people recognize it.

On the other hand, Vegas is a unique name, like Apple, Macintosh, Video Toaster, Avid, etc. So I like it on that ground.

Other suggestions for Vegas:

Sony V5

If you have to manage expectations when someone asks what NLE you use, just say, "I used to use, FinalCut/Avid/Premiere, but now I use this amazing editor from Sony, Sony Vegas. Have you heard about it? It blows FinalCut/Avid/Premiere out of the water. It's going to be huge."

That way they think you are on the cutting edge and always upgrading your tools.

We've covered this ground before.
The "problem" is not whether Vehgas is a good name or not - it is whether your clients have heard about it or not. You'd better get used to being the first person they hear about it from.
If you think this situation may have an influence on your sales, secure some copies of the favourable reviews that no doubt will begin to appear soon and include them with your material.

It's not what you got, it's what you do with it.

Tell your clients that.

As far as I can remember, I've never lost a client because I use Vegas. I've had a few ask, but the fact that I'm not using Avid or FCP has never been an issue.

Just say you're an AVID user of Sony Vegas.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Still having the 'Sony' in the front seems to carry a bit of clout.
Then again if they do know anything about this industry Sony hasn't had a stellar reputation in the editing department prior to Vegas and XPRI.

Amazing how shallow some are.

Do people ask a contractor what brand of tools he'll use?

When you go to a restaurant do you demand to walk through the kitchen and see the label on the pots and pans?

Give me a break!

an AVID user of a premiere editing application in its pinnacle. The final cuts will be by a pro ..

why people think FCP is so hot when there is a dearth of articles out there like this one below -- go ahead and read and start flaming ...

FInal CUT Pro is the BEST!!

And show them a demo of you using it. Then ask them if their editors who use FCP/Premiere/Avid can do that.

Or better yet, use the line "To get a good look at a T-Bone you could shove your head up a cow's ass, but wouldn't you prefer to take the butchers word for it?"

That's a classic. :)
