Thinking about going Apple... display that is

No, no, I'm not going to the dark side. Never.

However, I'm thinking about getting one of those super neat Apple Cinema displays
http://www.apple.com/displays/acd23/ that are extra large (20-23-26 inches wide) that support up to 1920x1200 resolutions and are fully digital. I've been watching and waiting and prices are finally getting fairly reasonable. Not cheap, no, but getting reasonable.

What's needed of course to make it work under a PC is a DVI to ADC adapter.

Just wondering, anyone else try it yet, if so with what results, and did you use the Apple adapter ($100) or some other and what was you choice of video card?

My suggestion, if you really want that display, is to buy it AND buy Mac to go with it. I'm a PC user and long time Macintosh fan. I've owned Macs in the past and will own one again in the future (when I can save enough dough). OSX is wonderful. Apple software is great and always improving. Only thing is...Vegas won't run on a Mac. You'll have to go with Final Cut Pro 4 (which is a great product too).

As for now I will continue to use my PC with Vegas and clog the forums with meaningless non-Vegas blabberings.

Or this one might work.

or maybe this one.

I'm not sure how much those displays cost, I would assume they are around $1000 or more. Here is just another idea, I just picked up a 18" flat panel LCD monitor for $400. You can get 2 of those, you'll have more screen space and it will probably be cheaper than buying a mac monitor and an adapter that may or may not work with your PC.

I really haven't kept up on current pricing, but last I looked think more plasma hdtv.

They truly are wonderful, even used for museum displays and such, but my practical side would never, ever forgive me from even considering such - assuming I won the lotto.

NOT mac bashing, really, but just stuff for anyone currious to look into... Shame really, all since the would be king returned... For those considering macs & relative performance, do a web search or three and check out the speed of the memory buss - uncool... Check out the relations with Motorolla who did the g4. Then check out folks who complained when their big screen, big dollar laptop screens broke, and apple's response - hint: it's along the lines of their position when their cubes started cracking. OSX is nice, but so's the first cousin Linux.

The one thing that puts me off those giant Apple displays is the mounting arrangement. again another example of Apple sacrificing form for function. On something that expensive you'd think you'd able to adjust the height and easily change the viewing angle PLUS they look way too easy to send crashing to the ground.

Apart from that the pictures are very nice, but rather prefer the idea of two monitors, two 19 inch Samsungs should be about the same price unless you want to feed it with HD and need the res that is. I'd avoid plasma, unless you keep all the screen lit up you get the equivalent of scan burns on the unlit areas.
