Third Monitor Preview Vegas Pro 16 (build 352)

Josh-J wrote on 1/15/2019, 2:53 AM

When I go to use a third monitor for doing a full-screen preview, Vegas Pro 16 will freeze, white screen of the preview monitor, then crash and won't create a crash report. However, Windows 10 gave this report.

The program vegas160.exe version 16.0.0.352 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Have Tried:

Updating Windows 10: Version:1809 Build:17763.253

Uninstalled and reinstalled video driver,

Tried turning off GPU acceleration didn't fix it.

Tried previewing middle monitor with same results. Tried 1st monitor, and while it worked, it would end up covering my timeline so it's not really a fix

Tried: I have tried contacting Magix email support but haven't gotten much help for the moment.

Tried: Doing a clean uninstall of Vegas Pro 16 with Revo-uninstaller and then reinstalling Vegas Pro.

System:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Version:1809 Build:17763.253

Vegas Pro 16 Build: 352

Asus ROG Strix X470-F GAMING

AMD Ryzen 2 2700

Corsair Vengeance 16GB

EVGA GTX 980 Ti 6GB

It's kind of a weird mix that works. I have 1 adapter that goes from Display Port to HDMI, another one that goes from HDMI to DVI, and the 3rd monitor, which is the one it used to work with, is just straight HDMI from the card to the monitor.

http://prntscr.com/m7kqaj This is my video settings in Vegas Pro 16

1. In the option to give here answers there is an easy option to show things instead of using all kind of other options.

2. Maybe it is good to start from the beginning to show the Vegas default interface on 1 screen that is connected to your Mainboard and not to other devices inside your hardware.
3. Look than if you have more options to show undocked windows on such a screen and what the possibilities are to see somewhere on another screen only the timeline preview. Let here the Windows options your leading guide.
4. Report back your findings on 2 and 3.

I actually solved my issue by rolling back to Build Version 307. I believe there is a bug with the newer version right now because everything went back to normal after the rollback. I submitted a bug report post about it.

I believe the Ryzen 2 2700 does not have an iGPU so I assume all his monitors are connected to the dGPU, a GTX980Ti in this case. To me its seem like the usual "mess" Windows makes out of multimonitor environments, especially when it comes to numbering provided to the API which can greatly screw-up the software. What may help is to delete all monitors in the Windows Device Manager, unplugging all monitors aside from your indented main monitor and reboot Windows. Also open Vegas and make sure it is placed nicely on the main screen. It might be a good idea resetting Vegas with the CTRL-SHIFT shortcut. Once done, exit Vegas and plug in one additional monitor and make sure Windows and Vegas show the same monitor number and location when you "identify" the monitors. Exit Vegas and plug in the 3rd monitor and do the same as with the second.

To answer, yes you are correct, the 2700 does not have an iGPU. And may I suggest that Build 352 is bugged? Because when I went to roll back to 307, everything went back to normal.

I doubt that it is bugged, it works fine on my system with 3 monitors.

Well I know I didn't change anything from 1 version to the next and I even told Vegas Pro to default all settings.
