This is Frustrating

Well, I have been on the Vegas band wagon for about 4 years----I have had small problems here and there, but overall its been a fantastic experience. I wish the same could be said for 6.0b. Absolutely nothing has changed on my computer since upgrading to 6.0b and my computer is configured correctly for Vegas operations.

Here is the gist of it---working with multiple events on the timeline, I'm getting so many of the "Vegas is not responding"messages across the title bar. Most recently when trying to do ram previews of several tracks at once, and earlier today when I was switching back and forth from the timeline to the Media manager. These are not recoverable stalls--I have to shutdown Vegas via task manager and reopen. I must say that my work flow has been adversely effected and I'm beginning to lose patience.

I will send another trouble ticket into Sony, but they wont respond.... they haven't in the last several weeks. I know that most of you are having trouble free operations (accept for people like Jay and a couple of others) I just can't figure this out. Maybe its back to 5.0 for me and the loss of all the things that I needed that Vegas 6.0 brought to the table. Please, no basic instructions like irc issues, open programs eating resources etc. I just want to know if any of you who are doing heavy editing have the same problem(s) and what your overall view of the this new version's DEPENDABILITY is.

Just to narrow this down a bit ...if you turn the media manager OFF via general prefs, and restart Vegas, is the stability improved?

If no change after turning off media manager, do you have a huge number of files in the project media list (aka Media Pool)?

What really helped me was to set the ram preview to 16 (default) and make sure the advanced memory in XP is set to "program" and not "cache".

I installed 6.0b and had no problems. However, today I tried to edit video and I couldn't even open 6.0b (it would freeze when opening with a "not responding" error). This continued regardless of rebooting, etc.

I uninstalled the program, reinstalled straight from the 6.0b (re-set my preferences) and it has worked like a charm. If you haven't done so yet, you might give this a try.

Thanks guys---yeah, I tried bringing the ram preview way down---have to run some more tests--Haven't tried disabling media manager( thats one of the reasons I bought the upgrade---) but will give it a go. I haven't tried a reinstall but will do so if the abore doesn't do the job.
