I have been useing Vegas Video to capture video from my analog capture card and it works fine accept I don"t have a Clue what AVI format I am captureing to, because there is no way to choose the codec you want ,like allmost every other Capture application, I know what ever it is it isn"t very compressed cuz the files are huge...Can any one let me in on the secret? Is it just uncompressed AVI or some sort of DV codec that comes with Vegas Video or is it something else?? and is there a way to choose the codec and format to capture to besides just chooseing YUV2 or RGB24?....thanX for any help you can give me .....

How large are the files you're getting? Uncompressed AVI should be about 1.2GB or so per minute. DV is about 225MB per minute. SonicFoundry's VidCap doesn't give you a whole lot of choices while capturing, but if the capture card's drivers are properly written you should see some sort of selections available. What i often did when capturing analog with VidCap was to capture a few minutes, then render them to a DV .avi file, then capture a few more minutes ... etc. Kinda clunky, but it worked.

You might like to download the free abcAVI Tag Editor from http://kibus1.narod.ru/sof/abcavi/index.htm.

Amongst its other functions this program knows about pretty much all the FOURCCs in current use and the codecs to which they correspond. Using it you should be able to determine which codec your capture card uses.

Ohh, So it doesn"t capture to a Codec installed on My computer it works off the codec in my capture card, well my Capture card captures in RGB24 but converts it into YUV2 which arent codecs it"s Uncompressed YUV2...so is there a way to use Codecs that I have installed on my computer to capture ..Like Lossless Mjpeg , or HuffyuV??

The problem with many compressed codecs is that they take an enormous amount of processor power. Unless the card supports this in hardware (such as ATI's direct capture to MPEG), then it's probably impossible to capture to a compressed format in realtime.
