I can not put my head around this. I have a small mp3 that has applause on the left side and silence on the right. One would think that if I panned right (with the pan slider or a pan envelope), I would get silence.....not so (I get applause on the right). Can you download my little mp3 http://www.dvsolutions.tv/sprstitch.mp3 and tell me what I am missing?

I see applause on the right chnnel and silence on the left. Pan hard to the left and I get applause in Vegas 9.

You are missing the left channel content. It is pure silence. The applause is in the right channel.

When you pan you mix channels, so naturally you will get some applause in the other channel. If you don't want mixing, then the left pan pot should be hard left and the right pan pot should be hard right.

PS

Panning is commonly used for creating a binaural (stereo) or multichannel recording from single channel recordings of each artist. The panning mixes the source channels into the output channels so that the source is placed somewhere in space. Vocals are usually put dead centre (mixed equally into left and right channels).

Right Click on the Pan Slider Button and select Balance (0 db Center). The Pan slider should work as you expect. In other words deselect Add Channels Balance (0 db Center).

Winner!!!!! You have to right click the pan slider and select another pan option.

You did not ask this .. but .. you can DELETE the silent channel and use ONLY the channel with audio information. it will, of course, be mono .. but it will show up equally in both speakers.

Brighterside is correct but for future info, and to clarify, the right-click Event> Channel select deletes/removes from the timeline only, the file itself is untouched and the parameters may be changed back or the other side selected.
