Thumbnail Display Options?

Is there anyway to reduce the quality of the thumbnails in the Project Media tab of Vegas 10 Pro? I've got a cranked-out machine which edits AVCHD natively at 30fps display, but for some reason, the thumbnails take their jolly time appearing in the tab. If I scroll down, I have to wait. If I scroll back up, I have to wait. I can't switch to a different view like List or Details, then I don't know what clip is what.

Any idea on how to have the thumbs display faster?

Thanks,

Dave

I couldn't find anyway to make the thumbnails redraw any faster. Then I looked at Media Manager and noticed that the thumbnails redraw very fast in there. So maybe using the Media Manager to pick your desired video clips is the way to go.

In order to populate a library in the Media Manager with the assets already in a Vegas project, create a new library in Media Manager, then drag and drop the assets from the Vegas media bin to the Media Manager. Subclips won't go over, though.

When you drag an asset from the Vegas media bin to the timeline, the asset is also added to the current library in the Media Manager if it's open.

Another thing I found out about Media Manager is that if you have it open in Vegas, as you add assets to the Vegas project bin, the assets are also added automatically to the library you have open in Media Manager.

And last but not least, Media Manager will crash if you feed it a file which has a defect of some kind.

Thanks, RJ, for your research. I have sworn off MM since day one (I just don't see the point). I wonder how many serious VV experts use it?

Thanks again.

I agree that media manager is the only way to handle large projects in thumbnail view. Vegas just cannot handle lots of clips and the continual redrawing makes things very slow. I've found that if I load enough clips in the project window they will also start flashing like crazy.

Media Manager is working quite well for me these days in V10 64bit on an i7 machine with 12gigs of ram. It used to be very unstable for me on lesser systems. Just wish they would add a "double click add to trimmer" feature like in project media. Then my editing life would be complete :)
