TIF file trouble

I'm trying to use a TIF file in a project. Can't get Vegas to recognize it. Photoshop sees it ,and saves it as a TIF file, but not Vegas. The manual makes crypitic mention of needing Quicktime to access TIF files, but does not elaborate. I have Quicktime player on the machine, but perhaps I need something more, different???

Any ideas?

Open up the file in photoshop and resave it as a .jpg file with a high quality/low compression setting. Vegas will be able to import the .jpg file.

I need the Alpha channel. I don't think JPEG has one. Am I right?

Hi Bruce - try .png instead and you'll get your alpha.

Thanks to everyone so far for taking time to help me figure this out.

I going from a 3D app that doesn't do .png, but will do .bmp, .tif, .tga. I've had good luck with .bmp, but I need an Alpha channel on this one. I tried .tga and it worked, but I am more familiar with .tif and,according to the manual, Vegas is supposed to handle (Quicktime required is all it says)

Any more ideas?

You can save the file out of your 3d app to .tga. Vegas imports .tga files properly and will give you your alpha channel. I render stuff out of Lightwave and import the sequence in Vegas to make .avi's all the time. Also one other thing about Quicktime. When you install Quicktime there is an option to select the type of insatallation you would like.You would want to choose the content creator option if you have not already. I beleive this is the middle choice during the install when it asks what type of installation you would like. This may be the cause of your problems. One other thing to try would be to simply open Quicktime and try to bring the file into it. If Quicktime opens it then Vegas should as well. Just a thought.
