Apply the SONY Timecode effect. You can position it, resize it, and assign your own starting point.

If you apply it to the event, it will put timecode for the event. If you do it on the media, it will TC the media. If you TC the project (effects) then it will TC the project. At the start of all these things is 0. So, technicaly, you culd have 3 differemnt TC's for 1 frame. :)

Sometimes I do things the long way...but it works for me:)

I render the project to AVI......bring that file back into Vegas and apply the TC effect and re-render to AVI. (the second render is pretty quick) That way I have continuous time code in all areas...including digital black areas. I use CCE's encoder (which is also very quick) to encode to MPEG for the client.

When I go back to make changes...I simply line up the AVI with the code to a new track in my project and follow the TC. Not perfect but pretty darn close!!

Drop the timecode filter on the video preview (video output fx), position as needed.
