Here is the situation:
I was given an Video on Beta. I transfered it to MiniDV and then captured into Vegas. I had to voice-over and translate on-screen graphics into 11 different languages. I translated and re-edited the graphics, rendered a new .avi file then layed each version back to its own miniDV tape, and had them dubbed back to Beta at a duplication house. I also recorded the audio but was not hired to to do the final layback of the audio (wish I would have been). I had to send the beta's and 48kHZ 16 bit audio files with a 2pop (for sync) to another studio that has the music bed. They are re mixing the music with my audio files and laying the audio back on the betas.
I just got a call from the engineer from this studio. They did the audio on the original video. He was having some problems with the tape I gave him and he said the following:
1. The time codes on the beta's I gave him did not match the timecode on the original beta's. Aparently they started timecode at 1 hour. He said this is a common thing to do on beta tape.
2. The original Beta tapes were non drop. The ones that I gave him back were Drop.
My question to you guys is:
1. Drop vs. Non Drop - Where can I make that distinction in Vegas? What is the difference? Is it done in Vegas or on the deck or at the duplication house?
2. Can I start a timecode at 1 hour on MiniDV? Does the Beta tape pick up time code from the minidv tape?
Thanks,
Al
